Background:
Several years ago, community and neighborhood leaders came together to look at how to achieve positive action in our community. They determined that neighborhood organizations had the ability to achieve positive change, but that help was needed to increase potential for success.
Neighborhood Network was created to provide assistance.
The organization serves to support, promote and implement activities and
strategies to allow participation in neighborhood associations, and to promote
improvements to the local neighborhoods, residents and the city as a whole.
Neighborhood Network is not part of the City of Rockford government structure.
It is a private organization with a Board of Directors and an Executive
Director. However, it is currently
funded primarily by the City of Rockford Human Services Department, Community
Services Block Grant, ARRA, and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic
Opportunity.

The ability to provide safe locations for area citizens to go during cold weather is important to ensuring that residents stay both safe and warm during extreme temperatures. These warming sites serve as an important resource for those without housing as well as those who may not have the resources to heat their homes adequately.
